11D Takes the District Crown!

The “Never Give Up” mantra we preach here at Fairfield American was on full display tonight in the 11s District 2 Championship Game at Unity Park.

Fairfield won the coin flip and took the “away” team again.  Fairfield found themselves looking at a 4-0 deficit after one. Drew Kane pitched well in the first inning; we chipped away for one in the second but then Trumbull got another in the bottom of the second to make it 5-1 after two. Both pitchers settled in the through the 3rd and 4th innings to put up zeroes. In the fifth, Dylan Lawlor (2-4, 2 RBI’s and a walk) singled and Kane (2-5, 3 RBI’s) followed with a run scoring double. Tristan Rivera then laced a double to deep right center making it 5-3. We pick up another run on an error to make it 5-4.

Trumbull goes down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning as Kane gets better as the game goes on. Top six, Brooks Fonseca (3-5, 2 runs scored) leads off with a single; Hudson Kofoed (2-4, 1 RBI) then hits a hard single to center; Lawlor intentionally walked. Kane then drives a single to left scoring Fonseca and Kofoed. 6-5 FALL. Will Ryan (3-5, 1 RBI) follows with a single. 7-5 FALL.

As they say, the last three out in Little League are the hardest to get. Trumbull battles with two outs in the bottom and of the sixth to tie the game at 7.  Trumbull could have won the game on a wild pitch but Max Mulhall and Hathaway made a heady play to get the runner at home. Extra innings. Top 7, Tommy Gardiner singles; Meesh Mulhall walks; Fonseca singles. Gardiner scores on a fielders choice and then Lawlor atones for his errors lining a single up the middle. 10-7 FALL. Trumbull tacked on a solo shot to make it 10-8 but Kofoed comes in to record the last out. DISTRICT 2 CHAMPS!

So proud of the boys for the way they battled and persevered!

The next game for 11D is Sectional play Friday night in Orange at 5:30PM versus District 4 champs Max Sinoway.

Winner plays District 1 champs Wilton on Saturday.  Thanks to all who came to watch the game - we appreciate the support and loud cheering!
