Each year, Fairfield American Little League presents a scholarship to a graduating Fairfield Ludlowe High School student who was part of the high school baseball program and a former FALL player. We are excited to announce that Joey Sanguiolo has been awarded the 2020 FALL Scholarship! Joey will attend Dickinson College this fall, where he was recruited to play baseball, and plans to major in International Business and participate in their Entrepreneurship Program. Joey is an impressive young man, balancing academics, athletics, the arts, and volunteer service. Simply put, Joey is an extraordinary role model for every young player in FALL!

Joey’s guidance counselor describes him as a "clever, inquisitive, and kind young man" who is a consensus-builder among his peers and “an esteemed athlete who is most in his element on the baseball field.” In his essay for the scholarship, Joey recalled his interest in entrepreneurship was sparked by his childhood sketches of inventions: "Inventing has shaped how I think, allowing me to see my ideas through the lens of curiosity."

Here are more of Joey's accomplishments: 

• Finished FLHS with a 3.80 GPA, which includes many honors classes and several AP classes
• Played freshman baseball, moving to JV (10), then varsity (11-12)
• Gifted artist who has been selected for the Fairfield Student Art Show each year of high school career
• Member of the Italian Honor Society 
• Member of Key Club for four years (serving as an officer/treasurer 11-12)
• Member of Concert Band and Jazz Lab (9-10), Wind Ensemble (11-12), and Jazz Ensemble (12).
• Member of Student Athletes Serving Others (SASO) and has earned an impressive amount of volunteer hours through the program, receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
• Volunteer at Wakeman Boys & Girls Club and the Pilot House
