AIDEN BLANC - BACK FROM A SUCCESSFUL BROADCAST IN WILLIAMSPORT!
On August 21st our very own FALL alumni Aiden Blanc called a game on national TV for ESPN. He was chosen by ESPN from a group of over a hundred student campers at the Bruce Beck Sports Broadcasting Camp. Bruce has been at channel 4 in NewYork for over 20 years. The broadcast was dubbed the ESPN Kidscast. Sharing the booth with Aiden was Eddie Kalegi (16yrs old) and the well known female Little League World Series pitcher MoNe Davis. MoNe is the only girl to pitch and win a game at the series. She pitched a shutout in 2014. In addition to his booth mates there were two 15yr old field reporters, Rahil Jaiswal and Zoe Alter.
As some of you veteran parents may remember, Aiden was quite a character when he was coming through the FALL league. At 10 years old he was the MC for opening day and at 11 he helped start the Announcers program. Rumor has it that Aiden once tried to throw a side-arm knuckle ball in a AA game; It landed 25 feet wide of home plate(true story). As Aiden admits, he was always a better talker than player. Well, we are so glad he kept talking!
Aiden told us a little bit about his experience at the Series: "We were treated like kings(and queens) in Williamsport. When we arrived, ESPN took care of our every need. Usually, I am use to producing my Ludlowe High School broadcasts alone. We had an entire pro crew helping us with the production. They give us special badges to access the ESPN compound. In the compound, we were eating and chatting with all of the big dogs: Tim Kurkjian, Karl Ravech, etc. These are some of the best guys in the industry! Also, being on the Sportscenter and Baseball Tonight shows was a dream come true. Over the past 8 years or so I have spent thousands of hours working on my skills and I felt like this was a lucky pay-off for that. FALL provided a great starting point for me. They gave me a great opportunity when I was 10 to express myself on the mic. So grateful for that! I just want to thank the FALL community for their support. Here are a couple of special pictures from our broadcast night in Williamsport. I have also created a short highlight reel of some of my calls. Thank you all for watching."
